CHIGIRI-E (TORN PAPER COLLAGE) WITH JAN WHITTED – WEDNESDAY, MAY 5, 7 PM

Open to all: Join us via Zoom on Wednesday May 5th at 7 pm for bee-inspired art-making led by Jan Whitted of Creative Adventures. This activity is limited to 30 participants.

Chigiri-e is the Japanese art form of making images with washi paper. We will be creating pictures of bees and flowers using lightweight unryu papers. These colorful handmade papers are translucent and contain strands of fibers from the mulberry bush. Learn how to tear the paper and layer it to make a beautiful 5” x 7” work of art. All materials will be provided and can be picked at the Robbins Library between April 14, 2021 – May 1, 2021. If any packages of art supplies are not picked up by May 1, people on the wait list will be able to participate and will have May 3-5 to pick up their packaged supplies.

You will also need: a well-lighted space and a flat surface to work on; a small cup of water, paper towels, a paper placemat to protect your work surface, small scissors, and optional tweezers. Also bring pictures of bees and flowers for inspiration.

Jan Whitted teaches collage, decoupage, card making, and sand painting as part of her business, Creative Adventures (www.getcreativeadventurescom). For more than 20 years she operated Artbeat in East Arlington, a resource for creative supplies and activities for all ages.

This event is free and open to the public. Register on Eventbrite for full details about materials pick-up, etc.
