The Friends of the Robbins Library presents Hui Lehua o Kamawila, a collaborative hula group dedicated to preserving and sharing Hawaiian dance traditions in Somerville, MA and the New England area. The group takes its name from the Lehua flower which blooms in adverse conditions. The ‘Ohi’a Lehua plant is often the first to recolonize the barren landscape of a freshly-cooled lava flow; it is found throughout the Hawaiian island chain and is especially associated with Hawai’i island. There will be an opportunity to learn and practice a few steps too! This event will now take place on Thursday, June 23 at 7:00 pm on the lawn beside the Whittemore Robbins House. Bring blankets and lawn chairs!
